Video: Watch as Category 5 Hurricane Otis makes historic landfall

Hurricane Otis hit the Pacific side of Mexico near Acapulco Wednesday morning at 1:25 a.m. CDT, per The Weather Channel.

The National Hurricane Center said Tuesday night, “There are no hurricanes on record even close to this intensity for this part of Mexico.”

InsurgenciaDC posted footage of Hurricane Otis from Acapulco on X, the site formerly known as Twitter, captioned, “#BREAKINGNEWS : #Otis, one of the fastest-intensifying hurricanes in world history, makes landfall in Acapulco, Mexico, as a Category 5 hurricane with sustained winds of 165 mph (266 km/h) and gusts of nearly 200 mph (322 km/h). #Hurricane Otis”

Southwest Mexico should expect heavy rains this week. Guerrero and Oaxaca are predicted to receive 8 to 16 inches of rain, per The Weather Channel.

The National Hurricane Center also predicted dangerous flash floods, urban floods and mudslides in the region. Otis is expected to dissipate quickly throughout the day on Wednesday.
