Mariah Carey has officially unfrosted for the Christmas season. At 10 p.m. MDT on Oct. 31, Carey posted a video on X that got over 42.6 million views. The video is captioned, “It’s…… TIME!!! 🎃🧊🎄 #MariahSZN.”

The camera zooms in on a locked, icy vault with a timer counting down until Nov. 1. The iron door unlocks to reveal four Halloween costume-clad individuals melting a frozen block of ice with steamers. Under the ice, Carey sings, “It’s time,” and the sheet breaks apart. “All I Want For Christmas is You” starts playing and the group is transported to Christmas land for the rest of the video.

“All I Want For Christmas is You” was recorded in August 1994, released in October and reached No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 list that year, per Cosmopolitan. Carey’s single has charted every single year since then, according to the Recording Industry Association of America.

The New Yorker said Carey “co-wrote one of the few worthy modern additions to the holiday canon.” Clearly, many other people agree, since “All I Want For Christmas is You” hit No. 1 on the Hot 100 in four consecutive decades.

It’s also not just Americans who love Carey’s Christmas classic. “All I Want For Christmas is You” has found its way onto top music charts in 26 countries. The Recording Industry Association of America reported that in 2020, “the holiday classic topped the charts in the United Kingdom for the first time, spending a record 69 weeks in the UK Top 40 before reaching No. 1.”

The 2023 Christmas season already seems to be off to a good start for Carey, as comments on her viral X post were overwhelmingly positive. One commenter notably said, “THE QUEEN IS BACK BOW DOWN.”
