Arizona State University’s baseball team had its annual costume scrimmage on Monday, and James P. Sullivan made it to first base before Spiderman could get the ball to stop him. Barstool Sports posted a clip of the game on X on Monday, getting 3.4 million views.

More than 40 ASU players came to the ball diamond fully clad in Halloween apparel. Santa made an appearance, despite it only being October, Batman made a visit from Gotham and Scooby Doo left Mystery Incorporated for the day to come play a game of ball.

Gonzaga, Amherst and Kansas State University had Halloween scrimmages within the past week, as well. On Monday, Gonzaga’s team notably had four Teletubbies and a grandma on its team, and Amherst welcomed Ken from Barbie-land.

Kansas State used the holiday to raise money for people suffering from ALS. Head baseball coach Pete Hughes formerly coached Pete Frates who died from ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, in 2019 and holds the Halloween scrimmage in his honor. He told KSNT, “We began the ALS Halloween game to create awareness and raise funds for a disease that’s really, needs some backing.”

Kansas State pitcher Owen Boerema said, “Any little thing that we can do to help.”

He continued, “I mean, we’re just playing college baseball, but in the grand scheme of things if we can help kind of combat a problem like ALS, it means so much more.”
