Video, witness statements outline shooting inside Pensacola Home Depot

Home Depot video surveillance shows suspected killer Keith Agee walking into the Davis Highway store on Friday afternoon and nearly immediately head to Aisle 52 where Brooklyn Sims was working.

While the shooting itself was not caught on camera, a witness who was grazed in the hand by a bullet said she saw Agee walk up to Sims and speak a few words to her, before Sims was shot. The witness said she heard at least five shots before she turned to run and was struck in the hand by a bullet.

A second witness reported hearing an unfamiliar male voice speaking to Sims. As the witness turned to look at the man, she heard gunshots. The witness then began running toward the garden center when she felt a bullet strike her back.

"(Agee), who was seen entering aisle 52, is seen running back towards the same entrance where he enters the store," the report said. "(He) is captured on the exterior cameras running through the parking lot and getting into a silver four-door sedan and exiting the parking lot at a high rate of speed."

Shortly after, Agee called 911 from nearby Mellow Mushroom and said he wanted to turn himself in. Agee, 20, was arrested without incident and charged with first-degree premeditated murder and two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

Text messages recovered from Agee's phone showed a conversation with his mother, Sheila Agee, in which she appears to tell her son where Sims will be in the store, knowledge she had because they reportedly worked together as contracted employees to conduct inventory.

Text messages between mother and son indicated Keith Agee began his day working at AM/NS Calvert in Mt. Vernon, Alabama, when he received a call from a local medical office and was told he tested positive for a sexually transmitted disease.

In the conversation provided by the Escambia County Sheriff's Office, after Keith Agee told his mother about the medical call, Sheila told her son that if he "don't come kill her you a mf b**ch" and told him to wait until "I put her out."

Sheila: As long as you don't shoot me.

According to the text messages, Sheila Agee then said she would give him the address so he could kill Sims away from the daughter they shared.

Sheila Agee was arrested by Alabama law enforcement Monday as principal to first-degree premeditated murder, and she was extradited to Pensacola Wednesday morning.

Both Keith and Sheila Agee are being held in Escambia County Jail without bond. Keith Agee is scheduled for arraignment on Sept. 1. An arraignment has not yet been scheduled for Sheila Agee.
