Video, X/Twitter, TikTok post show reactions to Canadian wildfire smoke in Florida
A hazy cloud of smoke was drifting over much of Florida Tuesday, a visitor from a wildfire in Canada, according to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, triggering air quality alerts and advisories around the state.
Residents in affected areas are advised to stay indoors as much as possible and reduce strenuous activity that calls for deep or vigorous breathing. Smoke inhalation symptoms can affect healthy people temporarily but can be extremely dangerous for anyone sensitive to particle pollution such as people with heart or lung disease, older adults, children and teens.
The Environment Protection Agency's AirNow map shows "unhealthy" levels of air quality from Palm Coast south to Coral Springs and west to large parts of Florida, with isolated areas around Jacksonville and southeast of St. Petersburg. Here's where you can track it.
And Floridians have been watching. Above is video of smoke across the sky over the Halifax River in Port Orange, Florida, just south of Daytona Beach on Florida's East Coast. shot by Joel Albair.
Here's what other people have been seeing.

The Canadian wildfire haze made its down to Florida, due to the combination of a low-pressure system over Florida from this past weekend and a high-pressure system over the eastern U.S. This was sunrise on Santa Fe Lake this morning, a few quick cell snaps on my way out to work. pic.twitter.com/5bM4Vieseo

Tough to believe, but this haze/smoke originated from over a 1000 miles away in Canada. Took the scenic route to get here. 📷 Kristy Hasenmeier in Lakeland. #Florida pic.twitter.com/hY92noymQO

Hazy afternoon here on the Florida Space Coast. Northeastern flow is helping bring in Canadian wildfire smoke to the area lowering air quality and visibility. #FLwx pic.twitter.com/YXSnlVocp4
