COVID-19: Could a vaccine be approved before Election Day?

With three U.S.-based drug manufacturers beginning to show promising results from coronavirus immunization trials, pressure to approve a working vaccine has become a new flash point in the 2020 election. Last week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a letter to state governments instructing them to prepare to distribute a vaccine as early as Nov. 1 — two days before Election Day — raising questions on both sides of the aisle that the approval process could become politicized.
