Daily Digit: How much do Americans trust the media?

Daily Digit is the story behind the numbers that make our world work. Today we’re looking at how much Americans trust the media. According to a new study, 45 percent of Americans have trust in the media. While that’s low, it’s an improvement from the record low of 32 percent in 2016. Democrats’ trust in the media is at an all-time high of 76 percent. Republicans have historically placed less faith in the media, but the gap between them and Democrats has grown. The study suggests that this could be due to President Trump’s continuous attacks on “mainstream media.” Despite this lack of trust, 84 percent of Americans say the media is “critical” or “very important” to our democracy.
