Daily Digit: What are schools teaching in sex ed classes?

Daily Digit is the story behind the numbers that make our world work. Today we’re looking at sexual education. According to a new study, only 24 states, and the District of Columbia, require public schools to provide sex education classes. And just 10, along with D.C., address sexual consent, sexual assault, or healthy relationships. While some states set standards on how to address sexual health, most do not. States like Montana and Tennessee stress abstinence only and STD education. But the study urges instruction on healthy relationships, prevention of sexual assault, and consent to equip young people with information to help them be safer and healthier.
