Universal Childcare

Child care options in the United States are expensive. In more than half the states in the country, a year of day care costs more than a year of in-state college tuition, according to a study by New America Foundation published in 2016. An estimated 12 million children under the age of five are in need of such care, but at an annual cost ranging from $6,615 to $19,805, it has become unaffordable for seven in ten American families. Here's a look at the history, proposal and politics of universal childcare.
