The Milwaukee Brewers have some new concessions plans cooking for their 2023 season ahead of the home opener on April 3.

On Thursday Chicago-based Vienna Beef announced that it would take over as the official hot dog sponsor for the Brewers and supply hot dogs and jumbo dogs.

Tim O'Brien, president of the 130-year-old hot dog purveyor, said it is strategically expanding its products to the Wisconsin market.

Vienna Beef has been established at restaurants and independent grocers around Milwaukee for decades, but only began providing at larger Metro Market and Pick n' Save stores at the end of 2022.

"We're working to market Vienna Beef more. It's part of a broader plan," O'Brien said. "Once we worked with the Brewers, it cemented our growth to the north. Plus, we buy a lot of our ingredients from Wisconsin, so it will be a positive thing to provide our product back to the state."

Vienna Beef supplies hot dogs to most Chicago stadiums, O'Brien said, including the Brewers rivals, Chicago Cubs. He wouldn't say which team Vienna Beef prefers.

"We love sports fans anywhere, because sports fans love sausage, and if that sports fan is anywhere close to Lake Michigan, we're excited for them to enjoy the game with our hot dogs," O'Brien said.

The Journal Sentinel reported in 2018 that New York-based Hebrew National became the Brewers' hot dog sponsor when the Brewers switched sausage sponsors from Klement's to Johnsonville, which does not have a hot dog in its product lineup.

The Brewers did not respond to a question asking if Hebrew National was the outgoing hot dog supplier.

Johnsonville remains the official sponsor and supplier for sausages, and is the sponsor of the sausage races. Additionally, the Vienna Beef partnership does not interfere with other concession relations like that with Black Shoe Hospitality, the Brewers said.
