The Viera Co. is completing construction on a park area geared to adults that will offer places for visitors to bring their meals from nearby restaurants and take photos in Instagram-worthy settings.

The park is near the future site of a number of restaurants, including Ford's Garage, Tiki Docks and Venezia Wine Veranda.

What will Borrows West Park include?

Eva Rey, vice president of community management and communications at The Viera Co., describes Borrows West Park as a "passive linear park" that is being built around a man-made lake on a 34-acre site with a relaxing vibe.

The park won't be for kids, as there will be no playgrounds, baseball fields or basketball courts.

But it will have oversized swings and chairs, where Rey said visitors can sit and take selfies and other photos.

"We wanted to concentrate on those Instagram moments," Rey said.

The park also has a 0.9-mile-long cement trail around the lake for walking, running or bicycling.

What's the focus of the park in Borrows West?

The park will be "more adult-focused around a dining experience," Rey said. "It's not like a park we've ever built before."

There will be a number of restaurants near the park, and the park will have areas with tables and benches where where visitors can bring their meals to eat. Rey said the seating will face the lake.

Among the nearby restaurants now under construction and expected to open later this year are Olive Tree Greek Grill and Venezia Wine Veranda.

Restaurants planned for the area, but not yet under construction, include Ford's Garage and Tiki Docks.

Already open nearby is a Chick-fil-A.

Chicken Salad Chick and Miller's Ale House are among the restaurants planned for The Crossings at Viera, a nearby development across Interstate 95 from Borrows West.

What is planned for the Borrows West area, other than the park and restaurants?

Borrows West encompasses 115 acres in all.

The area will include two hotels, Hilton Garden Inn and Homewood Suites by Hilton; the 350-unit Linz of Viera apartment development, with apartments ranging from one to three bedrooms; retailers; and dental and veterinary offices.

The Viera Co. also wants to develop a corporate park within Borrows West.

How did the park and the surrounding area get its name?

Borrows West's name is derived from its previous use ― a pit that supplied “borrowed” dirt that was used in building nearby I-95 improvement projects. Because this area is on the west side of I-95, it was named Borrows West.
