Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 907 make annual scholarship to MWCC

The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 907 made their annual scholarship contribution on behalf of local veterans attending Mount Wachusett Community College in Gardner on Monday, Nov. 6.

The Mount Wachusett Community College Veterans Scholarship was established through the generosity of the Vietnam Memorial Committee in 2003 as ‘The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Scholarship.’ In establishing this fund, the committee recognized the important role played by MWCC in insuring that the sacrifices and service of veterans who served in the Vietnam conflict would not be forgotten. In 2008, the committee requested that the name be changed to the MWCC Veterans Scholarship.

“Chapter 907 of the Vietnam Veterans of America has been directly and indirectly supportive of the Mount Wachusett Community College veterans for 20 years,” said Robert Mayer, MWCC Director of Veterans Services. “Their annual donation to the scholarship, and the example they set in the community has helped inspire other organizations and individuals to follow suit.”

There were currently six annual scholarships at the college dedicated to veteran students, Mayer added.

“I am so grateful that the older generation of veterans is so committed to the success of the current generation,” he said.
