'The View' hosts defend American Airlines flyer told to 'cover up' her outfit: 'I would wear this'

The hosts of "The View" agreed that American Airlines was in the wrong for telling Dr. Tisha Rowe to "cover up" her outfit on a recent flight.

The hosts of "The View" rarely all agree on a given topic, but they found common ground discussing an American Airlines passenger forced to cover up on a recent flight.

In a clip shared Thursday, the panel agreed that Tisha Rowe, who wore a strapless romper on a flight from Jamaica with her son, was unfairly targeted due to the way she looked.

"You can't debate that American Airlines wasn't singling her out for her body or her race," co-host Meghan McCain said. "When you have a curvier body, you're considered more sexualized. I remember when I went through puberty — I obviously am not a skinny girl — I had people say things to me when I was at the lake or at the pool, like 'oh, she should cover up.'"

McCain shared a photo of herself vacationing in present-day. The TV host says she now wears more conservative swimwear, because she doesn't "want to hear about it on social media."

"I don't understand. I've been on airplanes with people wearing tissues," co-host Whoopi Goldberg added. "(Rowe's outfit) didn't bother me. I would wear this."

American Airlines apologized to Rowe and offered her a refund after she called out the airline for forcing her to cover up an outfit they deemed inappropriate.

Tisha Rowe, a doctor from Houston, first tweeted about the incident June 30, claiming she was "disgusted" and "humiliated" after being given the option to "cover up" or get off the flight.

"My shorts covered EVERYTHING but apparently was too distracting to enter the plane," she tweeted. A photo of her outfit shows her wearing a strapless shirt and matching shorts. "When defending my outfit I was threatened with not getting back on the flight unless I walked down the aisle wrapped in a blanket."

In a statement to USA TODAY at the time, American Airlines representative Shannon Gilson said the carrier was "concerned about Dr. Rowe’s comments" and had "reached out to her and our team at the Kingston airport to gather more information about what occurred."

Gilson added, "We apologize to Dr. Rowe and her son for their experience, and have fully refunded their travel. We are proud to serve customers of all backgrounds and are committed to providing a positive, safe travel experience for everyone who flies with us."
