Vigil planned for former University of North Carolina Pembroke student killed in shooting

PEMBROKE, N.C. (WBTW) — A vigil is planned for Tuesday after a former University of North Carolina Pembroke student was killed in a shooting last week.

Khalil Alford, 19, died in the shooting near the campus on Wednesday, the university said. The vigil is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday at Old Main.

“It’s heartbreaking to witness such potential cut short in such a senseless manner,” the school said in a Facebook post.
