Vigil in Reading honors POW/MIAs, Vietnam War veterans

Sep. 18—A candlelight vigil Friday night in Reading honored POW/MIAs and Vietnam War veterans from Berks County.

The evening event was held at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in City Park on the monument's 35th anniversary.

Therefore the names of all 65 men on the wall — 62 who were killed in action and three POW/MIAs — were read aloud, and a rose was laid for each of them in remembrance of their ultimate sacrifice for the country.

The vigil was staged by the POW/MIA Forget-Me-Nots and the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 131.

It was held on national POW/MIA Recognition Day and paid tribute to those who are still missing and unaccounted for from all wars.

The Muhlenberg High School Air Force JROTC presented a Missing Man Table.

The ceremony included an Agent Orange Remembrance for the many Vietnam veterans who have died from war related injuries, sickness and diseases related to their exposure to that chemical.
