Vigil season 2 minor spoilers follow.

Vigil star Rose Leslie has revealed how her pregnancy changed her character's development for season two.

The BBC procedural drama will see the return of DCI Amy Silva (Doctor Foster's Suranne Jones) next month. This time the action will be focused on the world of drone warfare, after a group of mysterious murders take place at a Scottish military base.

Though that's not the only change featured in the new series, as Amy and her colleague and partner Kirsten Longacre (Leslie) are expecting a baby.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy, the Game of Thrones actress explained how her real-life pregnancy impacted Kirsten and Amy's story arc in season two. "I liked the idea that being pregnant meant that Kirsten had to stay home and be in Scotland," she began.

"And then as a result that drew us apart again, in a very natural organic way because there was no way that I'd be going out. So I felt that certainly coming from that premise it helped that there was a reason as to why their relationship was going to be torn again."

On her excitement at exploring a new aspect of the pair's relationship, Leslie continued: "I think me getting pregnant helped with the development of the relationship. We moved in. But I think what was really lovely, particularly in series two is that we see this dynamic happening between the two of us.

"It turns into a kind of humorous tussle but it does get serious at times and we do have to check one another on that throughout the series. I think, certainly for Kirsten there was a maturity that developed through her, not just becoming pregnant, but also in recognising that now that she has committed to this relationship, to this growing family, she can't be so willy nilly about life."

The highly-anticipated second series also sees Batwoman's Dougray Scott and Sex Education's Chris Jenks join the cast for the new investigation.

Vigil season two will premiere on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on December 10.
