Vikes takedown Eastern Greene

Dec. 17—MONTGOMERY — The Barr-Reeve Vikings (4-3) continued to show continued growth as they beat Eastern Greene on Friday in the Big Ship, 46-22 as they picked up their second win of the week.

B-R got a strong night in the paint from junior Evan Wehmeier with 15 points, as Braydon Knepp was also in double figures with 10 and sophomore Seth Wagler added nine. The T-Birds had no answer for Wehmeier down low as B-R controlled the paint all night.

"This was the best game our kids have played. We are starting to make better reads. I felt like tonight we had the right passes and the right reads, we just didn't finish the way we can. But I'm pleased, and I could really see the improvement since the Washington game," said B-R coach Josh Thompson.

Wehmeier opened the scoring with a free throw, while Brandon Knepp added three points. Wehmeier added two more baskets and B-R was up 8-0 halfway through the quarter. Seth Wagler put B-R up by 10, which is how the quarter would end, 10-0.

Although Wehmeier scored in the paint, Eastern cut the margin to seven. Wehmeier continued to dominate on the inside, while Donnie Miller got in the scorebook, and Karsen Boyd connected on a triple. Miller and Wagler finished out the half's scoring, giving the Vikes a 23-8 lead and end the quarter on a 9-0 run.

The T-Birds opened the second half with a trio of baskets, before Braydon Knepp got B-R back on the board. Wehmeier continued to be the steadiest Viking with four more points, followed by a 3-ball from Knepp that made it 34-16 with 3:10 left in the quarter. Seth Wagler posted and and-1 and a basket to finish out the third and take a 39-22 lead in to the final quarter.

Knepp and Wehmeier pushed B-R to a 21-point lead early in the fourth. Isaac Madison added a deep 3-pointer as the Vikings took the 46-22 win.

Also scoring for the Vikes was Donnie Miller with six and three each from Madison and Boyd.

In the two-quarter JV contest, the Vikes moved to 8-0 with the 22-13 win. Ethan Stoll led with nine, and Alec Wagler and Jacob Pauw had four each, Kendall Graber with three and Pierce Madison.

The Vikes are off until the Gibson County Tourney where they will face Princeton at Wood Memorial on Thursday.
