Vikings greats Ahmad Rashad, Tommy Kramer, Bud Grant to highlight Miracle at the Met reunion

It won’t be a 40th reunion, but a 42nd one is just fine with Ahmad Rashad.

On Friday night at the Radisson Blu at the Mall of America, a number of participants from the Vikings’ Dec. 14, 1980 Miracle at the Met game will gather for a reunion. That includes quarterback Tommy Kramer and wide receiver Rashad, who combined for the dramatic 46-yard Hail Mary pass on the final play that gave Minnesota a 28-23 win over the Cleveland Browns at Metropolitan Stadium.

Plans for a possible 40th reunion were disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic. But Rashad is fired up about coming to the event at the Mall of America, the site of where Metropolitan Stadium once was.

“It’s going to be a wonderful reunion for all the people that were involved in the Miracle at the Met,’’ Rashad said Saturday. “It’s one of those things that happened a long time ago but it’s one of the highlights that all of us had on the Vikings. So be able to bring guys back together is great. And having one of the most important people in my life, Bud Grant, be there, it’s just very exciting.”

Grant was the coach of the team that clinched the Central Division title with the dramatic win. Other players from that Vikings team scheduled to be at the event include Ted Brown, Ron Yary, Sammy White, Scott Studwell, Stu Voigt, Terry LeCount and Nate Wright. Former Minnesota players scheduled to attend who weren’t on that team include Carl Eller, Chuck Foreman, Paul Krause, Carl Lee, Keith Millard, Rufus Bess, Leo Lewis and Autry Beamon.

“It’s going to be exciting,’’ Kramer said. “It’s going to be fun.’’

The event is open to the public, with ticket prices starting at $60. Footage of the game will be shown, Grant and former players will talk about it, and autographs will be available. For more information, go to MiracleattheMet.com.

It won’t be only Vikings event that Rashad, who lives in Jupiter, Fla., plans to attend next weekend. He said he also will be on hand for Minnesota’s game next Saturday against the Indianapolis Colts at U.S. Bank Stadium.
