Vikings tackle Brian O'Neill named to Pro Bowl as injury replacement

Jan. 26—Vikings right tackle Brian O'Neill is heading to his first career Pro Bowl.

O'Neill, in his fourth season, was named to the Pro Bowl on Wednesday as an injury replacement for Tampa Bay's Tristan Wirfs. The game will be played Feb. 6 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

O'Neill becomes the fourth Minnesota player chosen for the game. Running back Dalvin Cook, wide receiver Justin Jefferson and safety Harrison Smith were selected last month.

O'Neill is the first Vikings offensive lineman named to a Pro Bowl since left tackle Matt Kalil made it following his rookie season of 2012.

O'Neill broke into the starting lineup as a rookie in 2018 and has continued to improve. He signed a five-year, $92.5 million extension before the start of the 2021 season, which takes him through the 2026 season.
