The Village 12U downs Coldwater 12U to win M60 Rec League Championship

The Village 12U team brought home the M60 Club championship Friday night, defeating the Coldwater 12U Redbirds, 10-2. QUINCY — It was a banner day for the The Village 12U baseball program, a travel ball program based out of Quincy. The Village put an emphatic cap on an amazing summer ball season, winning the M60 Rec League Championship with a 10-2 win over the Coldwater 12U Redbirds in the championship game.

Quincy grabbed an early advantage in the contest, one they would never relinquish on the way to the win.

Coldwater scored first with a single run in the top of the first inning as Royal F. scored on a passed ball, bringing the score to 1-0 after one inning.

The Village came right back with three big runs in the bottom of the inning to get right back into the game, taking the 3-1 lead. The Village scored on a single by Benny Travelbee, a single by JJ Wright, and on an error that allowed Wright to score.

Coldwater cut into the lead in their half of the second inning thanks to an RBI single from Mathew H, closing the score to 3-2.

The Village would then explode for seven unanswered runs over the next three innings to essentially put the game away. The Village scored a single run in the second inning thanks to a Daniel Burritt RBI single, pushing the lead back to 4-2. The lead was extended to 5-2 in the bottom of the third inning as Kale Dirschell grounded into a fielder’s choice, allowing Wright to score, giving the Village a 5-2 lead after three innings.

The Village extended the lead with five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning thanks to bases loaded infield single from Caden Norris; Daniel Burritt scoring on an error; and a JJ Wright double that allowed Benny Travelbee to score. Wright eventually came home on an error during the play, pushing the Village lead to 10-2.

Coldwater looked to cut into the Quincy lead in the top of the fifth inning however the Village defense held tough, putting away the Redbirds to secure the victory and the 12U M60 club championship.

Matthew Taylor secured the win on the mound for the Village, throwing two and two-thirds of an inning in the start, allowing four hits and two runs, only one earned, with three walks.

JJ Wright finished off the victory on the mound, throwing the final two innings and a third, allowing only one hit with three strikeouts.

JJ Wright led the Village offensive attack, going 3 for 3 with two singles, a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Caden Norris also had a big game at the plate, going 2 for 2 with two singles and two RBIs.

Also adding to the Village winning effort was Joe Gray with a single and a run scored; Benny Travelbee with a single, an RBI and two runs scored; Bryson Estlow with a single; Kale Dirschell with an RBI; Seth VanStelle with a double, a walk and two runs scored; Matthew Taylor with a walk and a run scored; and Daniel Burritt with a single, a walk, and RBI and a run scored.

Will K. took the tough loss on the mound for Coldwater after throwing three innings in the start, allowing eight hits and five runs, four earned, with four strikeouts. Caiden S. finished off the game on the mound, throwing an inning while allowing two hits and five runs, two earned, with three walks and two strikeouts.

Royal F. led the Coldwater offensive effort, going 2 for 2 with two singles, a walk and a run scored. Also adding to the Redbirds effort was Caiden S. with a single; Will K. with a single; Aiden A. with a run scored; and Mathew H. with a single and an RBI.

With the victory The Village 12U team secures the championship of the M60 Club Tournament.

This win for The Village 12U is just one of many throughout a productive summer as the youngsters from Quincy have brought home a ton of hardware this summer, taking second place in a very tough tournament at Galesburg; bringing home a win in a tournament under the lights at Coldwater; and taking a win in the Concord Father’s Day Tournament.

The Quincy Youth Sports-The Village is a newer travel team based out of Quincy and has been slowly building up their rosters in addition to their facilities. The Village has been working diligently on improving the grounds at Quincy Park, located on the shores of First Lake.
