Village of Loving seeks replacements for Mayor Pro-Tem and Village Council

Applicants were sought by the Village of Loving to fill a vacancy on the village council after Mayor Pro-Tem Ricky Fuentes was promoted to mayor, according to a press release issued by the Village.

Fuentes was appointed mayor Jan. 17 during a Loving Village Council meeting after Pete Estrada, former mayor, resigned, read the news release.

Village Clerk Manuel Garza said Fuentes would serve the remainder of Estrada’s term which expires Dec. 31, 2023.

Garza said Fuentes is Loving’s chief official and has many duties.

“Including being the chief elected official, overseeing employees and operation of daily functions, (along with) hiring and terminating employees with the consent of the council,” he said.

Fuentes was elected to serve in as Loving Village Councilor for position 2 and mayor pro-tem, according to the press release.

“A new mayor pro-tem has not yet been elected. One will probably be elected at the Feb. 13 regular council meeting,” Garza said.

Anyone wanting consideration should submit a resume and letter of interest via email to Garza at mgarza@lovingnm.gov or mail to P.O. Box 56, Loving, New Mexico 88256, per the release.

The deadline to apply is 4 p.m. Feb. 8, according to the release.

Garza said the person elected would serve on the Loving Village Council until the end of 2023.

He said elections in Loving this year were scheduled for Nov. 7.
