Villages Isolated After Landslides and Floods in Northern Italy

Several villages were left isolated in northwest Italy after Storm Alex brought damaging floods and landslides to the region, officials said.

At least nine people were killed, including a volunteer firefighter, and several were still missing as of October 5.

Piedmont and Liguria’s presidents signed a joint letter urging the declaration of a state of emergency with several villages cut off.
