Vin Diesel lets slip that the Guardians of the Galaxy will turn up in 'Thor 4'

James Gunn offers up yet another high-octane, hugely entertaining instalment as Star Lord (Chris Pratt) finds out who his dad is (spoiler: it’s Hollywood legend Kurt Russell). Another killer soundtrack accompanies the guardians’ space-hopping antics that see Peter Quill unravel his past, alongside Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax (Dave Bautista), Rocket (Bradley Cooper), and a rather cute incarnation of baby Groot (Vin Diesel).

Did the Guardians of the Galaxy end up as honorary Avengers? Or was it the other way around?

Whatever, the events of Infinity War and Endgame brought the two Marvel superhero crews much closer together as they battled to save half the life in the universe from being snuffed out, with Thor heading off into the sunset with the Guardians at the conclusion of Endgame.

And now, because Vin Diesel cares not for the secrecy which is guarded by the custodians of the MCU, it appears there will be a reunion of sorts in Taika Waititi's upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder.

Diesel, who voices Groot, was discussing the delayed plans for Guardians of the Galaxy 3, while director James Gunn finishes up his current project, The Suicide Squad for DC.

He told Comicbook.com: “I am waiting and excited for my friend James Gunn to knock this next one out of the park.

“He took The Suicide Squad so he's about to embark on it. Thor will also, the director talked to me about how Thor will incorporate some of the Guardians of the Galaxy.

“That'll be very interesting, nobody knows. But maybe I shouldn't have said anything.”

Diesel then added: “I only have two words about that character and it is 'Alpha Groot'.”

What this means, we don't know, but it appears that his mono-linguistic tree creature is stepping up to the plate.

What we do know, however, is that Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie will be key to the plot, having taken over from Thor as the ruler of the displaced Asgardians (she will also be among the MCU's openly gay characters too).

It's also known that with the return of Natalie Portman's Jane Foster, the movie will pursue the storyline of her becoming the new Thor.

Meanwhile, Thompson confirmed rumours of Christian Bale's involvement last week.

She told Entertainment Tonight: “Christian Bale is going to play our villain, which is going to be fantastic. I’ve read the script. I can’t tell you much. Lots of exciting text messages exchanged between Natalie and I. We’re going to have fun.

“Taika is writing [and] directing. Some familiar faces. Some new people coming into the mix.”

The movie is slated for release on 5 November, 2021.
