VIN'S PEOPLE: Bradenton Marauders reward front office 'Future Star' with promotion

While spring training is getting under way at Pirate City, baseball is already filled with promise for Rebekah Rivette.

The Bradenton Marauders recently promoted her to assistant general manager and the new gig comes on the heels of Rebekah being named Minor League Baseball’s Future Star of the Year at the 2022 Baseball Winter Meetings.

The Hyde Park, N.Y., native had been manager of marketing and game presentation since joining the Marauders in 2019. Her expanded role will include overseeing game presentation, press box operations, communications, marketing, promotions, and fan engagement.

The MiLB award honors the accomplishments of young professionals, acknowledging their commitment, dedication and leadership potential.

Rebekah’s previous stops were with the Northwest Arkansas Naturals, a Kansas City Royals affiliate with the Double A Texas League in Springdale, Ark., and the Saugerties Stallions, a summer collegiate team in Saugerties, N.Y.

· Speaking of baseball, good luck to Austin Henderson. The Bradenton Christian alum graduated from the Harry Wendelstedt Umpire School in Ormond Beach. He’s combining the legacies of grandfathers Doug Henderson, a revered Manatee County judge who retired in 2019 after 25 years on the bench, and Bob Delaney, a respected NBA referee who retired after 24 seasons in 2011.

· Say it ain’t so! Laura Nelson is one year shy of the Big 6-0!

· Well done to the Manatee High Sugar ‘Canes, who took sixth at the 2023 Dance Team Union Nationals in the Small Varsity Kick category in Orlando.

Led by dance director Julia Backus and assisted by Linda Boone, Tracy Bernthal Capozella and Chloe Krywko, the Sugar ‘Canes are seniors Peycien Handel, Gracie Kyrwko, Jillian Loudermilk and Emma Parker, junior Samantha Trent, sophomores Yadieliz Cordero, Callaway Johnson, Alliyah Kross, Ashlyn Page and Arie Williams, and freshmen Sophia Ciampi and Courtney Schultz.

· That’s 19 years of wedded bliss for Renee and Jasper Miller.

· And big ups to Palmetto High’s boys basketball team and new district champions. Coached by Abel Varnadore and assistants Reggie Baity, Kobe Johnson and Jamie Roberts, the Tigers are seniors Jamal Coleman, Christian Dozier, Amos Gass, Biscuit Jones and Sean Lavender, junior Amarious Jefferson, sophomores Urban Cooper, Adonis Moise and Amir Parrimon, and freshmen Johnnie “DJ” Jones, Kerry Peacock and Evan Roberts.

· Charge paramedic Chase Armenteros is January’s Manatee County Public Service EMS Employee Spotlight Recipient.

· A salute to the new road deputies with the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office: Madeline Antonelli, Julia Crocetti, Vincent DeMarco, Darin Gibson, David Gormley, Claudia Guerrero, Jacob Holmes, Anthony Marino, Thomas Miller, Fred Moore, Garrett Palmer, Cassidy King and Kayla Young.

· And Sha’moni Melendez is 2022 Employee of the Year at Discovery Village.
