Good luck to Carol Whitmore, new development administrator for Help To Home Inc., a nonprofit that provides low-rent housing and other assistance to families threatened by homelessness.

During 16 years as a devoted Manatee County commissioner, one of her causes was working to help find jobs and vocational help for low-income families.

Help To Home requires tenants to work with case managers, the school system and community services for vocational training to stop the generational cycle of homelessness.

It plans to build Hope Village, a community of housing units with below market rents, on land purchased in Bradenton on 30th Avenue near 14th Street West.

• That’s 40 years of wedded bliss for Gina and Dave Tuttle.

• Big ups to the Manatee School for the Arts Academic Team, champions of the 2023 Central Florida Winter History Bee and Bowl in Winter Park.

MSA was led by MVP Zane Hancock, captain Bronson Empsall, seniors Thomas Reynolds and Daisy Garcia and junior Harouna Thiam. MSA sophomores Isabella Coffman, Ian Emmons and Dariana Garcia made the junior varsity semifinals.

• Say it ain’t so. Maria Eurice hit the Big 7-0!

• Well done to Southeast’s Andrew Krykwo and Savannah Anderson, who took first and third, respectively, in congressional debate at Pine View School, as well as Lynn Yun, first in oral interpretation of literature (seniors). Isabella Castro took first in declamation and Adiam Teka was second (freshmen and sophomores).

• Speaking of Southeast, 2022 grad David Marshall graduated from Army Airborne School at Fort Benning where his sister, Julia, a junior in the school’s International Baccalaureate program, pinned him with his silver wings. Next up for Marshall is psychological operations training and eventually Ranger school.

• Uh, oh! Sara Ameres is one year shy of the Big 4-0!

• The Manatee County Fair’s Donut Eating Contest champs? Why, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, represented by Sgt. Mark Farrier, Sgt. Nelson Hernandez and Det. Keith Bush. They ate 14 donuts. (Only 14?)

Josh Hunter is 46.

• Congrats to Maria Garcia-Ramirez, Alyssa Monroe, Kelly Rauch and Mikerra Revange, recently appointed to Deputy Clerk at the Manatee County Clerk of Circuit Court.

Angela Babroski is 38.

• Manatee County businessman and attorney Bob Blalock will receive the sixth annual Robert P. Bartz Award for Outstanding Leadership at the Manatee Chamber of Commerce’s 60th Annual Dinner on Thursday at the Bradenton Area Convention Center.
