VIN'S PEOPLE: Manatee Meals on Wheels hosting drive-through turkey dinner distribution

Meals on Wheels PLUS will hold a Thanksgiving Food Distribution for 500 families Monday, 4-6 p.m., at its headquarters, 811 23rd Ave. E., Bradenton.

Families will receive a traditional Thanksgiving meal that feeds five to six people – including a frozen turkey with side dishes – to prepare at home at this drive-through distribution.

Quantities are limited and provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

· Congrats to Lakewood Ranch High’s boys golfers and girls for their top-10 finishes at the 2023 FHSAA Class 3A State Championships.

The boys team, including Max Colby Bendixen, Parker Severs, Josh Orgen, Henry Burbee and Luke Wilson, were runners-up.

The girls team, including Emily Storm, Phoenix Scanlan, Sierra Yoemans, Emma Albert and Sabrina DiRubba, finished seventh.

· Savannah and Marcus Francis are wed 10 years.

· Well done to the Braden River High Chorus’s eight members on the Florida All State Chorus, earning perfect or near perfect scores. They are Verse Tomac, Jacob Mazzone, Michelle Lupescu, Chance Boeglin, Gabriel Cortes, Raegan Caffrey, Evelyn Ortega and Cat Democko.

· Mike Barber, Manatee School District spokesman and former Tampa Plant flash, is 65.

· A bow to Dr. Mona Jain Middle eighth-grader Camille McCluggage, Manatee County's Art in the Capitol winner whose rendering of a loggerhead turtle will represent Manatee in Tallahassee from January to March 2024. Her work was chosen by a panel of judges, who viewed artwork from 12 middle schools and 60 students. Her art teacher is Denise Mueller.

· Salutes to Lieutenant Nicholas Pruitt and Deputies Michael Ates, James Forkin, Christopher Houghton and Dwight Roberts, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office Deputies of the Month for September. The quintet were able to apprehend a suspect, charged for armed robbery with a knife, who went from belligerent to suicidal at his residence.

· Peggy Coon is 81 years young.

· And welcome to Katy Wilkens, the new Chief Nursing Officer at Manatee Memorial Hospital. She comes to MMH from Christus Medical Center in Shreveport, Louisiana, where she was Chief Nursing Officer of a 200-bed hospital emergency services and a rehab hospital. Wilkens is working on her doctorate in nursing, where she is researching how different nursing staffing models can adapt to the evolving health care needs.
