If you're curious about taking up a project car, but don't want to see it sitting around for months (or even years), this vintage BMW M6 might be the perfect solution. Mechanically, it's pretty much perfect, but cosmetically, it needs a bunch of attention. It's up for sale right now on eBay Motors. You should buy it.

Welcome to You Must Buy, our daily look at the cars you really should be buying instead of that boring commuter sedan.

According to the selling dealer's description, this M6 has spent its entire life in California as a daily driver. The paint is heavily faded, the driver's seat is severely worn, the shifter boot is torn, the dash is cracked, and all of the exterior trim pieces could use a refresh. Thankfully, the car retains its OEM basketweave-style wheels, but they're far from perfect. Also, the tires are visibly dry-rotted. As far as the 256-horsepower 3.5-liter straight-six powertrain goes, though, it seems to be in great shape. The ad claims the engine idles and runs perfectly, with no warning lights. The five-speed manual is said to shift as it should, with good clutch uptake. Even the air conditioning works normally.

We think this BMW would be the perfect candidate for a light rolling restoration. Throw on some modern tires, and you've got yourself a good, solid vintage driver that you can improve at your own pace. Finding parts for an '80s M6 isn't as easy as it used to be, so it might take some time before everything is perfect. Oh, and it'll definitely need a repaint. But as far as the expensive engine stuff goes, there's not much to worry about. Or you could just drive it as-is, which is would I would probably do (though I'd probably still replace the tires to make sure I don't spin off the road). Who doesn't love some patina?

The car is currently for sale on eBay in Miami, Florida with a Buy It Now Price of $16,900 or best offer. Check it out here.
