Vintage and modern aircraft to take to the skies over Akron's Fulton Airport this weekend

The skies over the Akron-Fulton Airport will be busy this weekend as the air show returns to Akron.

The Props and Pistons Festival will be Saturday and Sunday at the airport.

Parking is limited at the airport so shuttle buses will take visitors from the designated lots in and around Derby Downs.

The show is a chance for aviation enthusiasts to get up close to modern and historic aircraft.

Some are available for tours and others will do fly over demonstrations.

“What we’d really love to see come out of this festival, too, is the inspiration of the next generation of pilots, mechanics, engineers, scientists and military members,” said Mike Bowser (U.S. Air Force retired) of Inspire Aviation and the festival vice chairman in a statement. “This is a safe, yet exciting event where the public can enjoy what aviation has to offer everyone.”

The event features free flight simulators, a kids zone, a car show, live music and food trucks.

You can even hitch a ride − for a price − on some of the aircraft.

Rides are first come, first serve and range from around $50 for a helicopter ride to $100 for a biplane ride to several hundred to ride aboard a warbird.
