Violent clashes at protests across U.S.
Fights broke out between right wing demonstrators and counter-protestors over the weekend in several U.S. states in clashes that drew SWAT teams and police in riot gear.
A march by members of a far-right group called the Proud Boys in Kalamazoo, Michigan on Saturday devolved into fistfights between anti-fascist and Black Lives Matter activists, leading to arrests.
One protester described the chaos before officers intervened.
"Once the violence started, I would say there was five to seven minutes where there was a running fight between some of the counter protesters and the Proud Boys."
The protests come as months of anti-racism protests have increasingly pitted Americans against one another.
In the Atlanta suburb of Stone Mountain... the site of a giant memorial to leaders of the breakaway, pro-slavery Confederate states, militia members, Confederate flag-wavers and supporters of President Donald Trump faced off against more than a hundred protesters, many carrying signs or wearing T-shirts supporting Black Lives Matter.
After hours of shouting, the protest devolved into fights with people punching and kicking eachother, drawing in police backed by a SWAT team.
In Portland, Oregon, where activists have staged anti-racism demonstrations for more than 100 days, members of the right wing Patriot Prayer militia scuffled with Black Lives Matter activists.
Local TV reported shots were fired and showed shell casings they found on the ground at the scene. No one was reported injured by gunshots.
Portland police declined to comment.
