Well, there’s one company that has plenty of shoes that are actually certified by the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA), the professional medical organization that represents the nation’s podiatrists. It’s called Vionic, and it was actually created by podiatrist.
Getting the APMA seal of acceptance is a pretty big deal, Melissa Lockwood, DPM, a podiatrist at Heartland Foot and Ankle Associates in Bloomington, Ill., tells Yahoo Life. “They run rigorous tests before they apply the seal of acceptance,” she says. “Having that seal of acceptance lets a customer know that it’s approved by podiatrists—you’re getting a quality product.”
Heads up: Right now, there’s a Vionic sneaker with an APMA seal of acceptance that’s on sale at QVC. It’s called the Vionic JoJo sneaker and it’s retailing for $90 (was $120). You can save another $10 off if you’re new to QVC—just add the code “OFFER” at checkout, and you’re good to go.

There’s a lot about this lace-up sneaker to love. For starters, it’s made to be a go-anywhere, do-anything kind of athletic shoe. Planning to pound it out on your treadmill? The JoJos have got you covered. Just want something comfy to wear while you WFH? No problem—they’re great for that, too.
But it’s the technical aspects of these shoes that really make them stand out. The JoJo has a podiatrist-designed, biomechanical orthotic footbed with Orthaheel technology and a deep heel cup to help stabilize your feet. “Stability, or ‘support,’ is probably the most important quality of a sneaker or any other shoe that someone will wear to be on their feet for more than a few minutes at a time,” Richard H. Graves, DPM, of Sol Foot & Ankle Centers in Longwood, Calif, tells Yahoo Life. “Making the foot stable means that the joints of the foot are in better alignment and the muscles, tendons and ligaments are not having to work as hard. A good shoe will do a lot of that work.”

The JoJo also offers up good arch support—and that’s an element that is crucial for optimizing shock absorption in your feet, Rock Positano, DPM, director of the Heel Pain Center at the Hospital for Special Surgery, tells Yahoo Life. “When this function is not optimal or compromised, patients will be more susceptible to develop arch strain, heel and Achilles pain, muscle fatigue and a negative functional effect on knee, hip and lower back function,” he says. Basically, having crummy arch support can leave you in a world of hurt.
