Who knew the actor who plays Jang Deok-su in the global hit K-drama “Squid Game” isn’t actually a murderous raging villain with a snake tattoo in real life? Videos featuring Heo Sung-tae’s Instagram posts have gone viral as viewers are surprised to see that he has a much more wholesome side compared to his on-screen persona.
After “Squid Game”: Fans can’t get over a recent Instagram post of Heo’s with the caption “Thank you for making me a millionaire ♡ #오징어게임 (Squidgame) #Squidgame #Netflix,” likely in reference to the number of followers he reached on the platform.
Not only has the post gone viral, but a TikTok video highlighting his post has gotten over 200,000 likes within 22 hours, with many users commenting on how funny the actor is.
“WHY DOES HE LOOK LIKE HE’S [ABOUT] TO ASK SOMEONE TO HOMECOMING, PLEASE I LOVE HIM,” reads one comment.
Another viral video highlights more photos that heavily contrast the way his character appears on screen.
A cat dad: It seems that almost every other post featured on the 43-year-old actor’s account is of his cats, Naju and Namhani.
When he’s not with his cats, it seems he also enjoys spending time with his mom. In one appreciation post dedicated to her, he writes in the caption “Let's stay healthy ♡.”
Several other recent posts show how close he is in real life to other “Squid Game” cast members.
But earlier posts reveal that he may not be so innocent.
One video, captioned “Naju vs Namhami,” shows the actor encouraging his cats to face off in a vicious duel.
Another post shows how the actor trapped poor Namhani into a cone collar, forcing the cat to pose for such a humiliating picture.
And in one post, he uses a laser pointer to trick the cat into a hopeless game of catch that the cat would never be able to win.
It seems one can never be too careful in making assumptions about the actor, who’s mostly played the villain role in over 60 movies throughout his career. One of his most notable performances prior to “Squid Game” was in the 2017 film “The Outlaws,” which won him the Excellence in Acting award at the Korea Cultural Entertainment Awards the following year.
