Yesterday at the Carreau du Temple in Paris, Louis Vuitton presented its fall 2022 collection, the eighth and last to be designed by the late Virgil Abloh. Brocade coats with the works of Giorgio de Chirico and Gustave Courbet, colorful double-breasted suit jackets with fit-and-flare pants made of velvet or satin, varsity jackets with pronounced patches, and even bridal gown: the entire lineup represented Abloh's aesthetic, one that elevated streetwear and brought an inimitable lightness and edge to luxury fashion. The show was a tribute to a great designer, a man who advanced his profession and solidified himself in the annals of his industry.
The same sentiment could be said of this week’s menswear releases. Champion, for example, has dropped a collection that features images of boxing’s GOAT, Muhammed Ali. Get ready to float like a butterfly and sting like a bee. The NFL’s GOAT, Tom Brady, has joined the fashion ranks, releasing a sportswear collection that’s built for winners. Top-tier outerwear brands Canada Goose and Nobis have new pieces primed for winter. And Greats, the shoe brand, has released a new style that’s, well, great. Last but not least, Louis Vuitton has enlisted Sotheby’s to auction 200 pairs of special Nike Air Force 1 sneakers that were designed by Abloh. What's more, proceeds will be donated to his scholarship fund—yet another fitting tribute to his legacy.
