Virginia Beach police ID victim, announce arrest in Saturday’s fatal shooting

One person was arrested following Saturday’s deadly shooting on Mineola Drive in Virginia Beach.

According to a news release from police, Virginia Beach Emergency Communications and Citizen Services received a call about a shooting at the 1000 block of Mineola Drive, located off Indian River Road, just after 8:30 a.m. Saturday. Officers found Ashley McCoy, of Virginia Beach, dead at the scene. She was 26.

Police announced Monday they arrested a 24-year-old woman in connection with McCoy’s death. According to a police news release, Elizabeth Ashe was charged with involuntary manslaughter. The release said no other suspects are wanted in connection to the shooting.

The Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office online database for current inmates lists a different name, sex, and charges for Ashe, but uses the same booking photo distributed by police. That database identifies Ashe as William Ashe and indicates he was charged with discharging a firearm within or at an occupied dwelling.

Online court records for the discharging a firearm charge list Elizabeth as an alias for William Ashe. But a spokesperson for the police department could not be reached Monday to clarify the discrepancies in the charges listed.
