Virginia beats out Florida for the No. 1 spot on WalletHub’s ‘2023 Best States to Retire’

Retirement is something a lot of people look forward to, but it doesn’t have to be the end of financial security or life satisfaction. According to WalletHub, “25% of non-retired adults haven’t saved any money for retirement, though not necessarily through any fault of their own.”

Virginia narrowly beat out Florida as the No. 1 state to retire, according to a study done by WalletHub.

In order to rank the states, WalletHub compared the 50 states across three key dimensions, affordability, quality of life, and health care. For each of those dimensions, the following scores were the possible maximum scores for each: Affordability, 40; Quality of Life, 30 points; Health Care, 30 points.

No state received a perfect score of 100 in the study. Virginia received a total score of 57.55 while Florida received a score of 57.43.

Virginia received a 16 on affordability, while Florida scored a 9. Virginia also beat out Florida in the quality of life category, with Florida scoring a 4 and Virginia nabbing a score of 11.

In the health care category, Florida zoomed ahead of Virginia, scoring a 28 while Virginia received an 11.
