Virginia man buys lottery ticket after lottery ticket - and wins get bigger and bigger
A Virginia man went on a lottery winning streak at a convenience store, buying winning ticket after winning ticket until he hit six figures, according to the Virginia Lottery.
Jose Vasquez’ winning streak started when he bought a ticket at the Cherry Avenue Market Store in Charlottesville.
“The Charlottesville man had scratched a Virginia Lottery ticket and won $100,” officials said in a news release.
“So, he played again, and this time he won $200. He kept on playing and won $400. The next ticket he bought won $100,000.”
Lottery officials didn’t say what convinced Vasquez to stop buying tickets in the Crossword 5X Series game.
Tickets to the game are $5.
“I am happy since I have always wanted to open up my own company but did not have the funds to do so,” Vasquez told lottery officials.
He didn’t say what type of business is in the making.
Vasquez won the top prize in Crossword 5X Series, beating odds of 1 in 1,224,000. The scratch-off game operates like a crossword puzzle, with players getting 18 letters and a challenge to complete three words.
Prizes start at $5 (breaking even) and the odds of winning anything in the game are about one in four.
