Virginia State Police identify person killed Tuesday in West Augusta crash

WEST AUGUSTA — A 36-year-old Head Waters man has been identified by Virginia State Police as the person killed in a three-vehicle crash Tuesday morning on Shenandoah Mountain Drive a half-mile east of Ramsey’s Draft Fire Road in West Augusta.

Police responded to the crash, which also seriously injured another person, at 7:13 a.m. Tuesday.

A 2017 Subaru WRX was traveling west on Shenandoah Mountain Drive when it crossed the center line and sideswiped an eastbound 2019 Toyota Highlander, according to a release. Police said the Subaru continued into the eastbound lane and struck a 2015 Toyota Rav4.

The driver of the Subaru, Trenton T. Varner, 36, of Head Waters, died at the scene, per police. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

Police said that the driver of the Rav4, Donna M. Gregory, 64, of Williamsville, was transported for treatment of serious injuries. Meagan R. Neil, 36, of Head Waters, who was driving the Highlander, was uninjured in the crash, the release said. Both Gregory and Neil were wearing seat belts.

The crash remains under investigation.
