Chicago-based Tribune Publishing, which owns The Virginian-Pilot and Daily Press newspapers, has promoted Shaun Fogarty, most recently the newspapers' general manager of digital solutions, to executive director of sales for Virginia Media Group.

The promotion comes after longtime executive Kelly Till, who had been with The Virginian-Pilot newspaper for 24 years, left this week to join the Richmond Times-Dispatch newspaper and its owner, Lee Enterprises, to be vice president of sales for Virginia, according to a report from the Times-Dispatch.

Till, most recently vice president of advertising, reported directly to Par Ridder, Virginia Media’s general manager, and Fogarty will, as well.

“In this role,” Ridder said in a statement, “Shaun will lead our advertising team to help local businesses grow their customer base with best-of-class digital and print solutions.”

Till, who joined The Pilot in 1996 as a senior sales executive after graduating from Old Dominion University with a degree in marketing, was also the publisher of Distinction and Growler magazines.

Fogarty, who started his newspaper advertising career at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, joined The Pilot 13 years ago in its classified advertising department.
