Virtual forums to explain proposed second Twin Cities-Chicago train

Mar. 4—The public can learn more about a proposed Twin Cities-Milwaukee-Chicago (TCMC) Second Train during hour-long virtual forums on March 11 and March 23.

The meetings begin at 6:30 p.m. will be held on Zoom, although participants can also join by phone. Register at www.greatriverrail.org.

The forums are co-sponsored by the Red Wing Area Chamber of Commerce, Winona Area Chambers of Commerce and the Great River Rail Commission.

The TCMC Second Train is a proposed second daily round-trip passenger train between the Twin Cities and Chicago that is expected to carry 124,000 people annually and complement the existing Amtrak Empire Builder service, which typically provides 123,000 trips each year.

"The TCMC Second Train is on track to bring numerous benefits to our region," said Great River Rail Commission Chair and Hastings City Council member Mark Vaughan. "A main goal of our commission is to educate and advocate on behalf of this project, and one way to do that is to connect directly with community members along the route."

The meeting will include local elected officials, chamber of commerce representatives, an update on the project's status, and benefits to the area. Participants will have an opportunity to ask questions.
