Virtual or in-person: Anderson school districts begin announce Thursday and Friday plans

Sandwiched between two winter storms and a rise in COVID cases, Anderson school districts have announced different plans regarding school Thursday.

District One is on regular schedule Thursday, District One Superintendent Robert Binnicker said.

District Two will operate on a normal in-person schedule Thursday, District Two superintendent Jason Johns said.

District Three will return to normal operations, students in class, on Thursday, District Three spokesperson Dylan McCullough said.

Compared to the rest of the county, District Three did not see hazardous road conditions that left them concerned, McCullough said.

"Friday is not determined but we are still monitoring weather conditions," McCullough said.

District Four will operate on a regular face to face instructional schedule for Thursday, District Four superintendent Dee Christopher said.

"There are patches of ice/snow on campuses that will be blocked off if needed first thing in the morning," he said in an email to parents Wednesday afternoon. "We anticipate some delays with transportation first thing in the morning due to road conditions and staffing issues."

District Five, the largest district, will be on eLearning for the rest of the week due to the "possibility of additional inclement weather later this week and our rising COVID-19 numbers," District Five spokesperson Kyle Newton said.

Weather: Another wintry mix headed for the Upstate Thursday night

The School District of Pickens County has not made a decision about Thursday classes as of noon, a spokesperson said.

Chances are increasing for a wintry mix to develop across the Upstate Thursday night through Saturday morning, beginning with rain and ending with snow accumulation.

A cold front will cross the Upstate and usher in colder air Thursday while Friday evening will see the best chance for snow accumulation with a 40% chance of precipitation, according to the National Weather Service.

Uncertainty remains, but it is increasingly likely that up to 1.5 inches of snow will accumulate across the area, the weather service said in a statement Wednesday.

We will update what the other districts have decided as soon as they announce.
