Jefferson Street Farmers Market opens for the season. The market offers local produce, baked goods, canned goods, plants, regional crafts and live entertainment every Thursday, May through October, from 4:30-7 p.m. in downtown Burlington. Watch for special events each month.
Main Street Mount Pleasant Cinco de Mayo Downtown Party is 5 p.m. at Union Block, 111 W. Monroe St.
Moose Lodge 579, 2529 Mount Pleasant St., will host Bingo, early bird at 6:30 p.m., regular games at 7 p.m. Yolanda’s food will be available with carryout too.
Mount Pleasant Main Street Art Center, 106 S. Main St., for the May exhibit, “Monumental Impressions” by Jane Elizabeth Shank, is 5-7 p.m. This exhibit will be in the gallery for the entire month.
St. Alphonsus Ladies of Charity rummage sale is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday-Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, in Manning Hall on South Jackson Street in Mount Pleasant. Everything is 50 cents unless marked otherwise.

Burlington High School student group Mind Blowing Connections will lead a Walk to Fight Suicide from 1:30-4 p.m. The walk will begin at Bracewell Stadium, 919 Market St., and proceed to the Port of Burlington, where organizations will have booths set up to provide information. Des Moines County Master Gardener Plant Sale is 8 a.m. to noon at Des Moines County Extension Office, 1700 W. Mount Pleasant St., with vegetable starts, perennials, annuals, houseplants and advice for gardeners.
