CAMBRIDGE − Early season offensive struggles continued Tuesday for Cambridge High School's softball team, resulting in a 7-3 setback to visiting Harrison Central in the Lady Bobcats' home opener at Cambridge City Park.

"Our hitting is just a little behind, because we have not seen much live pitching," CHS head coach Bob Shepard explained. "This is just our third time playing a game, and should have been our third scrimmage if the spring would have went better."

"Today we put the ball in play a little better, once we got our feet set," Shepard added. "We did a good job fighting back there a little in the seventh inning. Hopefully we can use that as some momentum to get the bats going now."

Trailing by a 7-1 margin entering the bottom of the seventh, the Lady Bobcats showed some fight and were able to mount a mini rally and pushed across a pair of runs.

With one out, Eva Lamphear pinch hit and singled to get the rally started. Elaina Hines followed with a base hit to put a pair of runners on with still one out. Lamphear would cross the plate on a pass ball for the first run, Jazz Bell would then hit an RBI ground out to plate Hines with the Lady Bobcats' third run.

Harrison Central put the Lady Bobcats in an early hole, putting up a four run first inning off CHS starter Kenzi Hickman.

The Lady Huskies would tack on three more runs in the top of the fourth to extend the lead out to 7-0. In the bottom of the frame, CHS got on the scoreboard with Hickman helping her own cause with an RBI base hit to score Bailey Kenworthy, who reached with a double to the left center gap.

Abby Mann and Bailey Kenworthy each doubled and singled to lead the Lady Bobcats nine hit attack, with Hickman adding a pair of base hits with an RBI.

Hickman took the loss in a complete game outing, allowing seven runs, five earned on 10 hits with two Ks and one walk.
