When the first trailer for horror movie hit "M3GAN" dropped last year, the eerie robotic doll of the same name went viral for a short dance sequence that appears in the film. Amie Donald, a 12-year-old from New Zealand, handled the dancing as the doll's physical actor. But behind the scenes, Plano native Jenna Davis lent M3GAN her voice.

"M3GAN," which hit theaters Jan. 6 and boasts a 95% Rotten Tomatoes score, tells the story of an A.I. doll who is assigned to be the caretaker and best friend of a young girl named Cady. Things take a dark turn when M3GAN becomes violent toward anyone who might harm Cady.

"M3GAN" marks 18-year-old Davis' first major Hollywood role, San Antonio TV station KENS 5 reported. Her past acting experience includes voice work for Disney Junior's "Vampirina" and Cartoon Network's "Infinity Train," as well as a recurring role on Disney Channel's "Raven's Home."

Amid her voice work and before "M3GAN," Davis found fame through social media. She has 4.3 million followers on TikTok and 2 million followers on YouTube, where she uploaded her first video in 2015. The Plano native told KENS 5 that her social media stardom helped her portray M3GAN, such as figuring out the way the doll speaks.

“I really had to dive into those creative elements … but I think I’ve been doing that for so long of my life that now it comes pretty quickly," Davis told KENS 5. "Even when it comes to doing a TikTok or receiving a script or writing a song, I have to dive into those creative elements.”

Davis also told KENS 5 that social media overall plays a role in M3GAN's character and her appeal to audiences.

“Because dances and TikTok and all these different things are so relevant to our generation, that’s what makes her so fun,” Davis told KENS 5. “Also she has an Instagram. She has all these things that people can interact with her on, which is quite comical.”
