Paying property taxes online costs more

Beware to those who pay their Polk County property taxes online. There now is a 2.5% processing fee of the total amount of taxes due to pay online. What a surprise. That's a pretty hefty charge since the funds are transferred from your bank to them pretty much immediately.

I was going to pay my taxes in November online but elected to send a check and pay them in December. The increase from November to December was far less than paying them online and paying the 2.5% fee.

Also I found the site to pay online was not very consumer friendly. Whole new format. What a change from last year. I guess Polk County hired an outside source to handle their online payments. Polk County Tax Collector Joe Tedder needs to justify this to all taxpayers.
