Voice of the people: Politicians with low approval ratings stay in office

The morning sun illuminates the rotunda of the Russell Senate Office Building on Capitol Hill in Washington. After months of shadowboxing amid a tense and toxic campaign, Capitol Hill's main players are returning to Washington for one final, perhaps futile, attempt at deal making on a challenging menu of year-end business.

Politicians with low approval ratings stay in office

Thanks for voting and giving power to the ones in office. Gas prices, inflation, supply chain, food shortages, giving my money to other countries when we need it here. Senators laughing in your face as they do it. If approval ratings are below 50%, why are they still in office? I hope you feel warm and fuzzy about our country and what your vote did.

No middle ground protecting the lives of our loved ones

I was 10 years old when I saw the distressing images of students fleeing a shooting scene at Sandy Hook Elementary School, and I was 15 years old when the shooting occurred in Parkland.

For far too long have the seeds of division and hate been sown in the land that we call our home. For far too long have politicians lacked a spine in order to act and do what is right and just for everyone. It is time to decide as a nation that there is no middle ground when it comes to safety in schools and protecting the lives of our loved ones.

Let this not be titled as politicization of an issue, it is the basic decency of what is in the American spirit and inscribed in our Constitution to “insure domestic tranquility … and promote the general welfare” of every person located in the dense forests in California to the shoreline of Maine.

Today there are missing seats at a table as a result of our lack of courage to say enough. Enough with the kind words instead of action. Enough with not adhering to commonality with one another and our brethren. Enough is enough.
