Voices of Unity: Resource center educates, empowers women and youth

MAPLE HEIGHTS, Ohio (WJW) — Veranda Rodgers believes she was born on purpose for a purpose.

Years after she became pregnant at the age of 16, Rodgers founded Pregnant with Possibilities, a resource center that provides culturally competent sexual health education, perinatal support, tools and techniques for new and soon-to-be mothers.

“Teens and sexual health education was kind of the foundation for, ‘How do I go back into the community and educate so that life doesn’t have to stop for you?'” Rodgers said. “We live in a world where everybody is reactive instead of proactive, right? So now we have someone who’s pregnant, and how do we help them?”

The M.O.M. Program is one way to help.

The acronym stands for making opportunities matter. It’s a 13-week hybrid course that educates and empowers pregnant and postpartum women.
