VOLLEYBALL: Mertz paces Bemidji State, but Dragons sweep Beavers 3-0

Sep. 11—MOORHEAD — Hallie Mertz paced the Bemidji State volleyball team with 10 kills on Saturday in Moorhead, but Minnesota State Moorhead still conquered the Beavers and swept them 3-0.

BSU kept things close in the first set, only faltering 25-22, but the Dragons ran away with it from there with set scores of 25-13 and 25-15 to close the night.

In the first set, Bemidji State (1-9, 0-2 NSIC) even led 19-17 before MSUM (5-5, 2-0 NSIC) scored six straight points en route to the comeback win.

Mertz was the only Beaver with more than three kills in the match, though seven others had multiple kills themselves. Emily Wade and Hally Holker finished with 14 and 13 set assists, respectively, while Mertz and Annie Hopp posted 12 digs apiece to lead the defensive efforts.

Bemidji State will be home for the first time this season when it hosts U-Mary at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, at the BSU Gymnasium.
