Volleyball Recap: Bronson sweeps Homer; LMS 7th grade splits with Hastings

HOMER, MI. — The Bronson Lady Vikings continued their undefeated ways in the Big 8 conference Tuesday night, defeating the Homer Lady Trojans in three sets by scores of 25-15, 25-17 and 25-23.“We lost a bit of our focus in the third set, but overall we continue to move in the right direction,” said Bronson head coach Jean LaClair. “I did think Homer played very well!”Leading the Bronson effort at the net was Payton Springstead with a team high 14 kills to go with three digs and two blocks.Aubree Calloway also notched double digit kills, blasting 10 kills to go along with a team high four blocks and one dig.Brealyn Lasky led the team from her setter position, recording 29 assists to go along with two aces and nine digs.Senior Haylie Wilson had a big day in the back row from her libero position, recording a team high 18 digs.“I thought Haylie (Wilson) did a great job of running the back row tonight,” commented LaClair.Also adding to the Bronson victory was Aleah Brackett with six kills, one ace, five digs and one block; Ciara Blankenship with six digs; Kaylee Wilber with two kills, three aces, eight digs and two assists; and Kennedy Clemens with two kills and five digs.Bronson will next see the court on Saturday when they host their annual Polish Classic.

Coldwater Legg Middle School Volleyball 7th graders split with HastingsCOLDWATER — The Coldwater Legg Middle School 7th graders battled Hastings on Tuesday night, splitting the pair of games.In the seventh grade “A” contest it was Coldwater defeating Hastings by scores of 25-12, 25-17 and 9-15, improving to 8-2-1 on the season.Leading the team from the service line for the night was Kelsey Price who was 12 for 13 with seven aces; Adyson Qualls who finished 10 for 12 with four aces; Audi Bucklin who finished 9 for 10 with four aces; Maddie McCullough who finished 4 for 5 with two aces; Lily Scheidler who went 2 for 3 with one ace; Alana Houtz who finished 2 for 4; and Alysie Dally who finished 2 for 4.Leading the back row effort was Caydee Marske with five digs to lead the team, followed by Alexa Carreon with three digs; Harper Morrill with two digs; and Elizabeth Vogler with two digs.Adyson Qualls led the team at the net with six kills while Audi Bucklin added three kills in the victory.In the seventh grade “B” contest it was Coldwater falling to Hastings in three sets, taking set one 25-13 before dropping the next two sets 21-25 and 9-15.Coldwater was led in serving by Katherine Smith who was 11 for 11 with three aces and one dig; Gemma McVicker who was 9 for 12 with seven aces and four digs; Brooklyn Nelson who was 6 for 7 with two aces and one dig; and Amberlyn Gaglio who was 6 for 6 with one ace and two digs.The LMS Cardinals will next see action Thursday at home.
