Volleyball Report: Waldron beats North Adams, The Academy takes down the Terriers

Week three of volleyball in Hillsdale County finally saw some county teams go head-to-head in strong matchups to start the conference season. Pittsford took on Calhoun Christian in a non-conference matchup. Hillsdale Academy headed to Litchfield for a match against an SCAA rival. In the biggest County matchup of the week, Waldron took on North Adams-Jerome. Camden-Frontier then faced down against SCAA rival Tekonsha.

Waldron vs. North Adams-Jerome

Coach Samantha Brown and the Rams took on coach Katina Fellabaum and the Spartans, and the Spartans walked away with the victory after five sets. The Spartans won set one 25-21, but the Rams bounced back in set two with a 25-23 victory. The Spartans escaped with a 25-21 win in set three, but the Rams forced a fifth set with a 25-20 win in set four. Momentum seemed to swing in the Spartans' favor in set five, winning by a final score of 15-10.

Spartan Hannah Hubinger had 13 kills, five aces, four blocks and 19 digs. Emma Wines finished with six kills, five aces and two blocks. Jena Fellabaum added six kills, six aces and 21 assists. Morgan Burk chipped in five kills, two aces and two blocks. Kailee Kurtz added five kills and 11 digs.

Camden-Frontier vs. Tekonsha

Head coach Dawn Follis and Camden-Frontier defeated Tekonsha in four games 25-18; 25-18; 11-25 and 25-13. Camden-Frontier continues to prove their are one of the top teams in the SCAA and they now have a 4-3-3 record this season.

Rylee Mckitterick had 23 digs, 17 serve-receives and four aces. Madison Swan had seven kills, 18 serve-receives and five aces. Kendall Alley had five assists, nine digs and four aces. Sydney Carpenter had six aces and three kills. Lexus Sigler had eight kills and three blocks.

Camden-Frontier will be back on the court this Saturday at the Union City Invitational.

Hillsdale Academy vs. Litchfield

The Academy Colts played Litchfield on Tuesday night and won in four sets. The Terriers came out and got an opening win over the Colts, but the Colts would prove to be too tough for the Terrriers in the final four sets. Set scores were 25-22 (Litchfield); 25-8 (HA); 25-12 (HA) and 25-6 (HA).

For the Colts, Ava King had 19 Kills. Haven Socha had 11 Kills. Megan Roberts had 11 kills, 10 aces and four digs. Clara Heath had eight aces and 34 assists. Angela Alvarez had four digs. The Colts are now 4-2-1 and continue their path as one of the more well-rounded teams in the SCAA.

For Litchfield, Tavia Shelton went 12-12 in serves with one ace, had five assists, four digs and finished the night with four blocks. Jenna Miller had one ace, four digs and two blocks. Addison McClouth had one kill and six digs. Abby Bills went 14-14 at the serve line and had four kills, two assists and two digs. Becky McCafferty had one ace, two kills and four digs. Eliza Alvarez had three digs.

Litchfield J.V. Stats: Cloee Frick had one ace. Maddy Blair had one ace and one kill. Emily Signor had one ace. Emily Knopke had three digs.

Pittsford vs. Calhoun Christian

The Pittsford Wildcats took on Calhoun Christian in a doubleheader matchup. In the first match, Pittsford won 25-17 and 25-8. In the second matchup, Pittsford took three sets to win: 25-22, 19-25 and 15-11.

The Wildcats played aggressively from the end line and the team earned 28 aces as a result. The team is still working through rotations but the Wildcats lean on their ability to attack and block shots, with nine solo blocks on Tuesday night.

For the Wildcats, Jacy Bliekamp had 10 kills and three blocks. Shelby Bryner had seven kills, nine digs and seven aces. Olivia Long had five kills. Halle Clark added three kills, four blocks and 10 aces. Lizzie Gerig had three kills, five aces and 12 assists.
