VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: City View punches playoff ticket for first time since 2005

The City View Lady Mustangs are playoff bound for just the second time in program history.

City View earned the playoff berth with a straight-set victory against Jacksboro, 25-14, 25-14, 25-18, Friday. The Lady Mustangs finish the regular season with a 16-19 overall record and 7-5 District 7-3A mark.

City View sits in third in the district standings behind Holliday (37-2, 11-0) and Bowie (20-13, 8-3) and ahead of Henrietta (23-12, 6-5). Henrietta can pull even with the Lady Mustangs in the standings by beating Vernon on Tuesday. That would force a potential seeding game between City View and Henrietta to decide third and fourth places.

RIDER HANGS TOUGH WITH NORTHWEST

JUSTIN – Rider gave District 5-5A champion Northwest all it could handle Friday, pushing the Lady Texans to five sets before falling, 25-12, 16-25, 25-18, 19-25, 15-9. It’s the toughest any 5-5A team has played Northwest (36-8, 12-0) this season.

Rider (15-16, 2-9) is out of postseason contention. The Lady Raiders were led by Kendall Toliver who had 15 kills and 14 digs. Taegan Ward added 14 kills and eight blocks.

WFHS SWEEPS BURK

BURKBURNETT – Wichita Falls High moved into sole possession of second place in the District 7-4A standings with a straight-set victory against Burkburnett, 25-12, 25-14, 25-20, Friday.

The Lady Coyotes (16-26, 5-2) can lock up the No. 2 seed in the district with a win against Gainesville on Tuesday. Old High can also take the second seed if Burkburnett (14-22, 4-3) loses to district No. 1 Sanger (28-10, 6-0) Tuesday.
