Volleyball: Watertown falls to Aberdeen, Hamlin earns two conference titles

Aberdeen Central rallied for victories in three of the four sets and downed Watertown in an Eastern South Dakota Conference match Tuesday night in the Civic Arena.

The Golden Eagles, 12-11 overall and 5-3 in the ESD, won the closely-contested match 28-26, 25-18, 19-25 and 26-24.

The Arrows (16-13 overall) led 24-19 in the first set but couldn't close out the win. They also led 16-12 in the second set and 21-15 in the fourth sets before Aberdeen Central rallied to also win those two sets.

Grace Corey went 24-25 serving with three aces and 24 assists, Paige McAreavey 14-15 serving with three aces and Kendall Paulson 16-16 serving with an ace, 10 kills and 26 digs to lead Watertown.

Other Arrow leaders included Emily Tisher with 11 kills, Eve Hauger six kills and four block assists, Miranda Falconer 19 assists, Emery Thury one solo and two block assists, Hannah Herzog three block assists and Maddy Rohde 18 digs.

Watertown hosts third-rated Class AA Harrisburg on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Civic Arena.

Hamlin 3, Clark-Willow Lake 0: Hamlin (24-4) wrapped up perfect seasons in the Northeast and Lake Central Conference by sweeping the Cyclones 25-16, 25-18 and 25-13. The Chargers finished 10-0 in the NEC and 6-0 in the LCC.

Kami Wadsworth tallied 38 assists and three block assists, Grace Opdahl three aces, Ally Abraham 18 kills and three block assists, Addie Neuendorf 15 digs, Ava Prouty 13 digs and Gracelyn Leiseth 11 kills, one solo block and one block assist to lead the Chargers.

Clark-Willow Lake ( 8-13, 3-8 NEC, 1-5 LCC) received eight good serves and five assists from Sami Brenden, four kills from Shay Michalski, 13 digs from Avery Lee, nine good serves from Sara Thonvold and four digs from Zoey Helkenn.

Florence-Henry 3, Waubay-Summit 0: Florence-Henry (22-7, 5-0) secured the Eastern Coteau Conference title with a 25-11, 25-15 and 25-15 win over Waubay-Summit (4-19 overall).

Caylin Kelly produced 14 kills and 13 digs, Macey Lane two aces and 14 digs, Trinity Watson seven kills and two blocks, Taylor Watson 14 digs, Jozie Hyatt five aces, Reese Schmidt 26 assists and Kaija Gusso 13 assists for the Falcons.

Leaders for the Mustangs included Liza Purdy with four kills and 13 digs; Katie Karst, two aces, five digs and two kills; Kylee Marx, five digs and two kills; Ava Breske, four digs, two kills and four blocks; and Hollie O'Riley, four digs.

Great Plains Lutheran 3, Waverly-South Shore 0: The Panthers (11-17) won 25-14, 25-14 and 25-19 over the Coyotes (2-28) by getting four aces and six assists from Kaitlyn Rawerts, seven kills from Abby Kjenstad, six kills and four blocks from Oliva Holmen, five kills from Lanaya Hayes, eight digs from Myra Lentz, six digs from Grace Powers and two aces, 17 assists and six digs from Kyrie Roberts.

Milbank 3, Webster Area 1: The Bulldogs (18-10, 8-2) won the Northeast Conference match 24-26, 25-23, 25-14 aqnd 25-18.

Averie Engebretson led the way with two aces, 35 assists, two kills, two blocks and 19 digs. Addisyn Krause added three aces, four assists and 16 digs; Rachel Schulte two aces, 16 kills and 34 digs; Skyler Skoog eight kills and nine digs; Claire Snaza 11 kills and three blocks; Rylie Overby nine kills; Hallie Schulte 31 digs and Emily Wollschlager 15 digs.

The Bearcats (14-12, 5-5) got three assists from Elliott Steiner, five assists from Baylie Somsen, four assists from Katie Braun, five kills from Harley Johnson, eight kills and 25 digs from Gracie Cadwell, three solo and four block assists from Erin Sannes and 26 digs from Jersey Johnson.

Castlewood 3, Flandreau 0: The Warriors (19-7, 5-1) won the Lake Central Conference match 25-18, 25-22 and 25-16 over the Fliers (9-17, 3-3).

Mackenzie Everson notched 13 kills; Presley Knecht three aces, nine kills, one solo block and one block assist; Gracie Haug 26 assists and 10 digs; Maddie Horn four kills and 13 digs; Emerson Carter five solo blocks; and Kailyn Larson 10 digs.

Claire Sheppard notched 11 kills and three blocks, Lizzie Pavlis eight kills and four blocks, Abby Schoeberl 20 assists and 16 digs and Sadie Iott 19 digs for Flandreau.

Arlington 3, De Smet 0: Natalie Burns tallied nine kills, 13 digs and two aces to spark Arlington (19-13, 7-2) to the 25-20, 25-13 and 25-19 Dakota Valley Conference win. Harley Johnson added four aces and 26 digs, Tanaya Weiss 34 assists, Morgan Larsen 11 kills and Addie Steffensen nine kills.

De Smet (9-18, 1-8) leaders were Emma Albrecht with eight assists, Megan Dylla five assists, Jada Burke eight kills and 11 digs, Cori Birkel four kills and six blocks, Alyssa Asleson 11 digs, Hazel Luethmers seven blocks, Jacie McCune seven digs and Olivia Johnson two assists, three kills and six blocks.

Elkton-Lake Benton 3, Sioux Valley 0: The Elks improved to 27-3 with a 25-18, 25-11 and 25-16 win over the Cossacks (18-12).

Elkton-Lake Benton leaders included Rachael Krog, 10 kills and 16 digs; Kylie Ramlo, five kills and five digs; Kailyn Drietz, seven kills and 11 digs; Tevan Erickson, 36 assists, four aces and four digs; Kinsley Krog, 10 digs; Kayla Goertz, 14 digs; and Andrea Renkly, 10 kills, one solo block and two block assists.

Ashley Bjerke led the Cossacks with five kills, nine assists, 10 digs and two block assists. Sunny Hesby contributed five assists and seven digs, Kaedyn Sapp four kills and two block assists, Keyra Kruse one solo block and three block assists, Landree Wilson five kills, two aces and eight digs and Adison Renkly one solo block and three block assists.

Britton-Hecla 3, Aberdeen Christian 0: The Braves (8-18) won the non-conference match 25-11, 25-20 and 25-18 over the Knights (3-23).

Redfield 3, Tiospa Zina 2: The Pheasants (17-12, 9-1) outlasted the Wambdi (11-16, 3-7) 23-25, 25-16, 22-25, 25-18 and 15-12.

Baltic 3, Deubrook Area 2: Baltic improved to 19-5 with a 23-25, 26-24, 25-14, 17-25 and 15-7 win over the Dolphins (13-15).

Tri-State 3, Enderlin, N.D. 2: Tri-State prevailed in five sets to improve its record to 10-15-1 on the season.
